Aaugh!!! (The Passing Me By Post)

“When I dream of fairy tales I think of me and Shelly
See she’s my type of hype and I can’t stand when brothers tell me
That I should quit chasing and look for something better
But the smile that she shows makes me a go-getter…”
Passing Me By, The Pharcyde

We’ve all been here, done that, bought the T-shirt and the commemarative key chain. For some of us, we may have only had to deal with it once, while for some, we’ve purchased the monthly subscription. The topic at hand is dealing with the guy/girl that seems to be close enough for you to ‘kick it’ with (get it? Kick? Lucy? Charlie Brown? #imhereallweek) , only to have the football pulled and you’re on the floor. or as we guys like to call it, physical and/or mental ‘blue balls’.

So here are a few things to keep in mind while you see that football being held up by that finger…

He/she is likely trying to kick someone else’s football. Feelings and desires are often cyclical and rarely mutual. So that means that it’s very likely that the very person that is passing you by is being passed by as well. If you can somehow keep that in perspective, you may be a little less pressed to kick, push and coast.

Embrace the facts. The worst thing to be in this situation is in denial, because it usually leads to desperation, which usually leads to #creepytweets. It’s always best to just take a deep breath, acknowledge the facts, and embrace the outcome. Remember, if you find yourself chasing, it’s often because they are veering away from you, not towards you.

Check yourself before you wreck yourself. Cuz falling flat on your a** is bad for your health. In all seriousness, this goes back to the previous advice. One major fact is that the pursuee often takes great pleasure in your pursuit with no intentions of letting you complete the journey.

Patience is a virtue. Don’t try and kick the ball. Make them pass you the damn ball. At some point, it is up to you to not repeat the cycle of being coaxed into pursuing something that just isn’t there. Patience will lead to usually two outcomes. You become disinterested and find interest in something else or you change the behavior in the situation where potentially you may get to hold the football. (Don’t hang your hat on this outcome though. That chance is similar to the chances of Coolio making a comeback.)

If all else fails, try Family Guy.

I see you chose option 5.

Age old question: who’s chasing me while I’m chasing him? Most folks (myself included) don’t realize that if they’d turn around, THAT guy might be everything they wanted.
